ADU in Los Altos
Los Altos city is one of the pioneers in allowing up to 4 ADUs on its lot, none of which is counted towards floor area ratio calculation. It's also one of the few cities that allows 2-story ADU with 18 feet height limit.
Arborist report required if there's a big tree nearby. Over 750sqft (even for detached ADUs), civil engineering will be triggered. If over 750 addition/attached ADU, Fire sprinkler and underground utilities will be triggered (detached ADU wouldn't trigger). Calgreen is needed for additon or ADU over 300 sqft as part of the permitting process. Survey needed for ADU
